Painted on a gessoed board. The violet red watercolor base became an almost magical background to the pears and onions, brought to the foreground with strong color and pastel strokes.The low placement of the main light, which casts long shadows across the table top, along with the almost eye-level placement of the pears and onions adds a serious note, elevating the status of such lowly meal components.
